Descendents of
Alice Wilma Davis

1. Alice Wilma “Wilma” Davis, born 6 Feb 1897 at St. Helens, Columbia county, OR; daughter of Louville Campbell Pine Davis and William Davis. She m1. Earl Morris Morgan; m2. James Jesse; m3. Vern Paquette. She died 11 Dec 1968 at Tillamook, Tillamook county, OR and is buried at the IOOF cemetery near Tillamook.

Notes: This gets complicated… Louville Campbell Pine, the mother of Wilma, married [2] her first cousin William Davis after her first husband William Townsend Pine committed suicide at Medford, OR. Most family records report that Wilma was born at St. Helens (Houlton) but her older half brother Ed Pine flatly stated that the Pine – Davis family was in Southern OR at the time and Alice Wilma Davis was born at/near Grants Pass, Josephine county, OR.

My Dad went to Southern Oregon and brought Louville and the kids back to stay with them when whatever took place with Davis ended… Alice Stamp Abbot, daughter of Gertrude Campbell (sister to Louville) who married Phillip Sagar Stamp.

Louville Campbell Pine married Bill Davis who went to Gold Hill, Jackson county, OR, where Aunt Wilma was born. She returned to Portland and caught the Iralda to St. Helens… Peg Notes

“Crawfish” Bill Davis fished on the Columbia and sold crawfish in St. Helens… Peg Notes

Note: William Davis is enumerated on the 1880 Census for Columbia county, OR. age 18. born in Nevada, father born in Wisconsin, mother born in Canada. Oddly, he is listed as a boarder but he is living with John Downing and Elizabeth Root Davis Downing. According to family tradition Elizabeth is his mother.

Notes: The Root family was in Iowa until 1856 when they moved to Colorado City… Looking at the age of William Davis and then the Downing children Elizabeth should be in Nevada during 1870 …ldr

[obituary]

4. William Davis Sr.[?] b. WI; he dropped out probably in Ruby City, NV circa 1862… since William Davis Jr. [?] was born in NV 1862…

5. Elizabeth Root; b. in Canada, 1842… in Michigan 1850, Wisconsin in 1860… Colorado…? Nevada by 1862… maybe she married William Davis Sr. in WI and they went to Ruby City…

Notes: One of those treasured family traditions was that William Davis died in Salt Lake City and the Mormons wanted Elizabeth to marry a Mormon… she hid with her baby in the false bottom of a wagon and escaped… the Mormons were said to have followed the wagon for a good distance until they were satisfied she wasn’t on board. What doesn’t match the story is that William Davis was born in Nevada… 1862. Unless there was another baby…
